Vasily Petrenko
Vasily Petrenko is chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Last season, he was appointed chief conductor of the European Union Youth Orchestra. He is also principal guest conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre( formerly the Mussorgsky Memorial Theatre), where he began his career as resident conductor. Mr. Petrenko has also served as principal conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Mr. Petrenko has worked with many of the world’ s most prestigious orchestras in Europe, Asia and North and South America. Equally at home in the opera house, and with more than 30 operas in his repertoire, Mr. Petrenko has appeared at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Opera de Paris, Hamburg State Opera, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Zurich Opera and many others.
Recent highlights include Mr. Petrenko’ s summer tour with the EUYO, a UK Tour with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and return visits to the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and to the San Francisco, Houston and Montreal symphony orchestras.
Mr. Petrenko began his music education at the St. Petersburg Capella Boys Music School— the oldest music school in Russia. He then studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire and participated in masterclasses with Ilya Musin, Mariss Jansons and Yuri Temirkanov among others. Following considerable success in a number of international conducting competitions, he was appointed chief conductor of the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra in 2004. In October 2007 Mr. Petrenko was named Young Artist of the Year at the annual Gramophone Awards, and in 2010 he
MarcoBorggreve won the Male Artist of the Year at the Classical Brit Awards. He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Liverpool and Liverpool Hope University and an Honorary Fellowship at the Liverpool John Moores University.
Vasily Petrenko last appeared with the BSO in October 2011, conducting Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 3.
Inon Barnatan
Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan is embarking on his third and final season as the inaugural Artist-in-Association of the New York Philharmonic, appearing as soloist in subscription concerts, taking part in regular chamber performances and acting as ambassador for the orchestra.
Over the summer, Mr. Barnatan appeared at the Seattle, Santa Fe, Delft and Aspen Festivals, all capped by a solo recital
