Selected performances of Beethoven Symphony No. 5 and Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 are accompanied by real-time digital program notes for smartphones and tablets via the Octava app. For more information visit bsomusic.org/about/octava Official Piano of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra During the 2015 – 2016 season, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet held residencies with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra and the Colburn School in Los Angeles. The latter was the second of a three-year engagement where he conducted masterclasses and performed with students. Mr. Thibaudet also gave recitals across the United States, Europe and Asia, collaborated with the Emerson and Alma quartets, performed with cellist Gautier Capuçon in a duo recital at Vienna’s Musikverein, and took Grieg’s Piano Concerto on tour with TonhalleOrchester Zürich.   Mr. Thibaudet’s recording catalogue of more than 50 albums has received two Grammy nominations, the Diapason d’Or, Gramophone and Echo awards and the Edison Prize. He has been featured on the award-winning film soundtracks for Atonement, Pride and Prejudice and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, and has worn a concert wardrobe designed by Dame Vivienne Westwood. Mr. Thibaudet was born in Lyon, France, where he began his piano studies at age 5 and made his first public appearance at age 7. At 12, he entered the Paris Conservatory and at age 15, won the Premier Prix du Conservatoire and, three years later, the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York City. Mr. Thibaudet was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl’s Hall of Fame in 2010. In France he has been honored with the Victoire d’Honneur and was made Officier of September–November 2016 | O v ertur e 13
