The BSO
Fei Xie
bassoon
Fei Xie joined the BSO in January 2008
and was appointed principal bassoonist
in 2012. He received a bachelor’s degree
in music from Oberlin College, where he
performed with the Akron and Canton
symphonies and served as principal
bassoonist of Mansfield Symphony. Mr. Xie holds a master’s degree
in music from Rice University and, as a student, he performed at the
Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. Mr. Xie joined the Houston
Grand Opera while earning his master’s degree and performed
with the Houston Symphony as guest principal bassoonist. He has
attended many music festivals, including Tanglewood Music Center
and Sun Valley Summer Symphony.
Philip Munds
horn
Philip Munds received a Bachelor of
Arts degree from the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music in 1986. After
graduating, he played for the San
Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco
Opera and Ballet Orchestras, the
Berkeley Symphony and the Santa Cruz Symphony Orchestra.
In 1989, he joined the United States Air Force Band in
Washington, D.C. While playing associate principal horn in the
band, he performed extensively with the Air Force Woodwind
Quintet. In 1997, Mr. Munds left the service to fill the position of
assistant principal horn with the BSO and in 2004 was appointed
principal horn. He currently teaches at the University of Maryland.
Lisa Bergman

Before joining the BSO in spring 2014,
Lisa Bergman had been a member of the
San Antonio, Knoxville and New World
symphonies, and performed regularly with
orchestras throughout the United States,
including the Indianapolis Symphony, the
Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Colorado and Kansas City
symphonies. In addition to performing, she enjoys educating and mo-
tivating students of all ages through masterclasses and teaching pri-
vately both at home and throughout the country. Ms. Bergman holds
a Master of Music degree from Indiana University and a Bachelor of
Music degree from Michigan State University. Her principal teachers
include Randy Gardner, Michael Hatfield and Julie Landsman.
Lura Johnson
harpsichord
Pianist Lura Johnson is a Steinway Artist and
the second prize winner, with Duo Baltinati,
of the 2015 International Johannes Brahms
Competition. She is principal pianist of the
Delaware Symphony and has been pianist
of choice for the BSO since 2007. Trained
by luminaries Robert McDonald and Leon Fleisher, Ms. Johnson has
collaborated in orchestral performances with Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perl-
man, Midori, Joshua Bell and Jean-Yves Thibaudet and has performed
as concerto soloist with the with the BSO and the Delaware Symphony.
Her accolades consist of 11 recordings, including a solo album; a
Grammy nomination; and a prominent appearance in the official trailer
for the 2013 Warner Brothers film Gravity.
