Christoph König is
principal conductor
and music director
of the Solistes Euro-
péens in Luxembourg and principal guest
conductor of the Real Filharmonía de
Galicia. He has toured with the Orquestra
Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música as its
principal conductor.
As a guest conductor, Mr. König has
performed with orchestras throughout
Europe. He led the BBC Scottish
Symphony Orchestra on a highly
successful tour of China. He has
conducted the New Zealand Symphony,
Adelaide Symphony and the Malaysia
Philharmonic Orchestra.
The 2016 – 2017 season brings Mr.
König to North America for appearances
in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New Jersey,
Chicago, Milwaukee, North Carolina and
Calgary. He has also recently conducted
the Cincinnati Symphony, Los Angeles
Philharmonic, Vancouver Symphony,
Oregon Symphony, Milwaukee Sym-
phony, Colorado Symphony and Toronto
Symphony Orchestras
As an opera conductor, Mr. König
stepped in on short notice to direct Die
Entführung aus dem Serail at Zurich
Opera, and since then has also led produc-
tions at the Zurich Opera, the Teatro Real
in Madrid, the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and
the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Mr. König has recorded works by
Schoenberg, Prokofiev, Saariaho and Sibe-
lius with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto
Casa da Música on Ao Vivo; Melcer with
the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
on Hyperion; and Beethoven symphonies
with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra
(DB Productions). He has also recorded
for Chandos and SEL Classics.
Born in Dresden, Mr. König sang in the
celebrated Dresdner Kreuzchor. He studied
conducting, piano and singing at the
Dresdner Musikhochschule. He began his
professional career as Erster Kapellmeister
in Wuppertal/Gelsenkirchen.
Christoph König last appeared with the
BSO in June 2015, conducing Sibelius'
Symphony No. 7.
