Hélène Grimaud
Hélène Grimaud’ s recent performance highlights include collaborations with the Turner Prize-winning artist Douglas Gordon: a large-scale installation at New York’ s Park Avenue Armory and a piece at the Manchester International Festival, where she shared the stage with actress Charlotte Rampling.
Ms. Grimaud also appeared at the opening night gala of the new Philharmonie de Paris and at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in New York State, where she was 2015 Artist-in-Residence. Her recital at the Philharmonie Essen earned her the 2015 Klavier-Festival Ruhr Prize. In 2016 – 2017, Ms. Grimaud appears with the Rotterdam Philharmonic and performs concertos in the US and Australia as well as recitals in Germany and Switzerland with cellist Sol Gabetta. She performs music from her latest album, Water, in Scottsdale, La Jolla and Baltimore, with recitals in Stuttgart, Basel, Nuremberg, Lisbon, Rome, Monte Carlo and Stockholm.
In 2016, Ms. Grimaud released Water, a live recording bringing together works by nine composers on Deutsche Grammophon. She has also recorded the two Brahms piano concertos— with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic— on the same label.
Ms. Grimaud was born in Aix-en- Provence and began her piano studies at the local conservatory. She was accepted into the Paris Conservatoire at just 13 and won first prize in piano performance three years later. She continued to study with György Sándor and Leon Fleisher and in 1987, gave her debut recital in Tokyo.
Ms. Grimaud established the Wolf Conservation Center in 1996, in upstate
