Jonathan Leshnoff’ s Dancin’ Blue Crabs! was commissioned for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop by Classical Movements, Inc. as part of the Eric Daniel Helms New Music Program. Also made possible by a grant from New Music USA through a generous contribution from Thomas Brener and Inbal Segev, and additionally supported by the Francis Goelet Charitable Lead Trusts, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and the Randolph S. and Amalie R. Johannes Moser
German-Canadian cellist Johannes Moser has performed with the world’ s leading orchestras, including the Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Israel and Munich philharmonics as well Chicago, London, Bavarian Radio, Frankfurt Radio symphonies, Royal Concertgebouw, Tokyo Symphony and the Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras.
This season, Mr. Moser presents new works with Julia Wolfe and Andrew Norman. In 2012, he premiered Magnetar, a concerto for electric cello by Enrico Chapela, which Mr. Moser performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, and in the 2013 – 2014 season, he continued this relationship with the orchestra performing Michel van der Aa’ s cello concerto Up-close.
In 2010, Mr. Moser toured with toy pianist Phyllis Chen in“ Sounding Off: A Fresh Look at Classical Music” as part of his commitment to presenting classical music so listeners of all ages can engage and connect.
A dedicated chamber musician, Mr. Moser has performed with Joshua Bell, Emanuel Ax, Leonidas Kavakos, Menahem Pressler, James Ehnes, Midori and Jonathan Biss. He is a regular at festivals including the Verbier, Schleswig-Holstein, Gstaad and Kissinger festivals, the Mehta Chamber Music Festival, and the Colorado, Seattle and Brevard music festivals.
Mr. Moser was a recipient of the prestigious 2014 Brahms prize. His recordings have earned him two ECHO Klassik awards and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. In 2015, he released his first recording for Pentatone, a disc of Dvořák and Lalo cello concertos. His concerto debut disc with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, was honored as one of Classics Today’ s Top 10 CDs of 2008.
