Dima Slobodeniouk
In September 2016, Dima Slobodeniouk took up the position as principal conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the Sibelius Festival. Since 2013, Mr. Slobodeniouk has been music director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia. Combining his native Russian heritage with his musical study in Finland, Slobodeniouk draws on the powerful musical roots of those countries. The 2016 – 2017 season sees Mr. Slobodniouk guest conduct the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Warsaw Philharmonic. He also returns to the SWR Stuttgart Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic and Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Slobodeniouk has worked with student musicians of the Verbier Festival Academy over recent years. In 2015, he began a conducting initiative with Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, providing an opportunity for students to work with a professional orchestra.
Mr. Slobodeniouk maintains an active collaboration with BIS Records, conducting works by Finnish composer Sebastian Fagerlund with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Moscow, Mr. Slobodeniouk studied violin at the Central Music School and continued at the Conservatory’ s Music Institute, Moscow, at the Middle Finland’ s Conservatory and the Sibelius Academy.
Dima Slobodeniouk last appeared with the BSO in March of 2013, conducting Shostakovich Symphony No. 11.
