Angela Lee
Angela Lee joined the
BSO in September
2012, as Assistant
Principal Second
Violin. A native of Korea, Ms. Lee
earned a Bachelor of Music degree in
2007 from the Seoul National University
in Korea, and later that year moved to the
United States to attend the Manhattan
School of Music where she earned her
Master of Music degree and a Professional
Studies Certificate in the Orchestral
Performance Program.
Before joining the BSO, Ms. Lee
completed her fellowship with the New
World Symphony, having often served
as one of the rotating concertmasters,
working under the baton of Michael
Tilson Thomas. She has participated in
numerous music festivals including Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland and
the Pacific Music Festival in Japan.
This is Angela Lee’s first appearance as a
soloist with the BSO.
Kevin Smith
Kevin Smith, a native of Dallas, Texas,
recently joined the
BSO’s first violin
section, and serves as acting assistant
concertmaster for the 2015 – 2016 season.
Mr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Music
in Violin Performance at the University of
North Texas, and a Master of Music degree
at the Cleveland Institute of Music. As a
chamber musician, he has been coached by
the Cavani, Juilliard, Shanghai, and Takács
Quartets, and studied under Peter Salaff
of the Cleveland Quartet. Mr. Smith has
performed under the acclaimed conductors
Franz Welser-Möst, Osmo Vänskä, and
Valery Gergiev. Before joining the BSO,
Mr. Smith was a member of the Akron
and Canton Symphony Orchestras, acted
as concertmaster for the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with
The Cleveland Orchestra.
This is Kevin Smith’s first appearance as
a soloist with the BSO.
