Welcome
By now, many of you have heard that I will be leaving the BSO at the end of June to take on
a similar role with the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera. It is with mixed emotions that I say
farewell. In the decade that I’ve been with this orchestra, I have seen the institution grow in
so many ways — most importantly under the direction and inspiration of Marin Alsop. I will
truly miss Maestra Alsop, our wonderful musicians

a visit from Yo-Yo Ma, and a rousing season finale of
Verdi's Requiem.
The summer is filled with surprises — truly something for everyone, from our annual
July 4th Spectacular at Oregon Ridge to Final Fantasy, symphonic music from video games.
We’ve also got a tribute to David Bowie, our famous Rusty Musicians playing
Wagner and Ravel at Artscape, and the BSO live to Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer’s Stone on the big screen.
Looking ahead to the 2016 – 2017 season, as we complete our
Centennial celebrations, there is a special focus on the music of two
revolutionaries — Beethoven in the 19th century and Stravinsky in the 20th.
And the Centennial reaches its climax in November with the ultimate
artistic expression of our humanity, Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”. Please
see “A Season of Fate and Fancy,” page 9, and be sure to be part
of this first season of the BSO's second century by purchasing
a subscription at www.bsomusic.org.
As I leave this wonderful organization, I am confident
that it is poised to enter its next century stronger than ever.
It has been a privilege and honor to be a part of the
BSO, helping to support the world-class music making
of our orchestra. May the BSO continue to thrive!
