Joan Tower ' s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman # 6, was commissioned for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop by Classical Movements, Inc. as part of the Eric Daniel Helms New Music Program. Also made possible by a grant from New Music USA through a generous contribution from Thomas Brener and Inbal Segev, and additionally supported by the Francis Goelet Charitable Lead Trusts, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and the Randolph S. and Amalie R. Rothschild Endowed Fund for New Music.

Alexandra Soumm
Violinist Alexandra Soumm is a multifaceted artist who as a young violinist has already collaborated with orchestras from around the world, including the London Philharmonic, Munich Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Zurich Chamber Orchestra and many others. She has performed with such distinguished conductors as Herbert Blomstedt, Juanjo Mena, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Neeme Järvi, Lionel Bringuier, Edward Gardner, Alexander Shelley, Leonard Slatkin, Thomas Sondergard and Osmo Vänskä.
Born in Moscow, Ms. Soumm moved to Vienna to study with the renowned Boris Kuschnir and won the Eurovision Competition in 2004. She is a BBC 3 New Generation Artist and London Music Masters awardee. Now based in Paris, Ms. Soumm co-founded the non-profit organization Esperanz’ Arts, with the goal of making the Arts in all its forms accessible to people in schools, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters.
Alexandra Soumm is making her debut with the BSO.
