Born in 1980 in
Yerevan, Armenian
violinist Sergey
Khachatryan moved to Germany to study
with Josef Rissin before becoming, in
2000, the youngest ever to win the VIII
International Jean Sibelius competition
in Helsinki, and going on to win first
prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition
in Brussels in 2005.
Following his North American debut
with the Cleveland Orchestra in 2004,
Mr Khachatryan has performed with
major U.S. orchestras.
International highlights include appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna
Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra
Amsterdam, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich,
Leipzig Gewandhaus, Munich Philharmonic,
London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de
Paris, Sydney Symphony, NHK Symphony
and Taiwan National Symphony.
With his pianist sister Lusine, Mr. Khachatryan has performed recitals in New York
at both Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall.
Forthcoming seasons include return
appearances with the Seattle Symphony
and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Sergey Khachatryan last appeared with
the BSO in March of 2006, performing
the Sibelius Violin Concerto, Andrew
Constantine conductor.
