{I n H i story}
Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and set to Tchaikovsky’s score,
The Nutcracker ballet made its world premiere at Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre on
December 18, 1892. The ballet eventually made its way into Western Europe and America
in the 1930s and 40s performed by the Ballet Russes.

saddened to hear about the
passing of Steve Rosenthal, a
talented clarinetist and participant in the inaugural BSO

a music enthusiast, Steve was
a champion of global health
and, aside from his many
professional accomplishments,
he will be remembered for his
sense of humor, gentle soul,
clarinet virtuosity, avid poker
playing and storytelling ability.
Remembrances may be made to the Rosenthal Scholarship in Music and
