NEWS FROM BSO ORCHKIDS ! PROGRAM NOTES

BENEDETTI PERFORMS MARSALIS VIOLIN CONCERTO

BSO Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush with OrchKids students and teachers
A School Visit from Jonathan Rush ! Last semester , OrchKids students were thrilled to welcome the BSO ’ s Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush to their classroom . Students at Margaret Brent Elementary School and Booker T . Washington Middle School learned about the path that led Jonathan to the BSO , how to conduct in four different time signatures , and practiced conducting to pop songs . Jonathan shares a common goal with the OrchKids program : to create meaningful connections with the Baltimore community . What better way to do that than going into Baltimore City schools and connecting with students ? We look forward to welcoming more incredible guests like Jonathan into the classroom this year !
Meet-and-Greet with Isata Kanneh-Mason When asked what their favorite part of OrchKids is , field trips are always towards the top of students ’ lists . Knowing that they have not gone on a field trip in a year and a half , we jumped at the opportunity to attend a concert at the BSO and have a meetand-greet with Isata Kanneh-Mason . Our students came dressed to the nines and enjoyed the BSO ’ s concert featuring Isata Kanneh-Mason performing Clara Schumann ’ s Piano Concerto . After her performance , she met the OrchKids students backstage where she shared inspirational words that encouraged them to continue their musical journey . We can ’ t wait for our next trip to the Meyerhoff !
