Happy New Year ! A year marking the 80 th anniversary of the BSO as an independent nonprofit entity and the 40 th anniversary of the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall , 2022 will be filled with many amazing programs and important milestones .
First and foremost , we are excited to be once again sharing music in our second home at The Music Center at Strathmore . The Orchestra ’ s performance on January 6 marks not only the first program of our Season of Discovery at Strathmore , but also our first performance in the venue since March 2020 . And just as we are excited to return , we are also committed to building connections and programming beyond the walls of The Music Center at Strathmore — a goal reflective of the importance of Montgomery County in the BSO ’ s mission and strategic plans .
Equally important , we are excited to announce the latest extraordinary investment in the Orchestra — The Marshall and Sarellen Levine Associate Principal Cello Chair . The fourth endowed position in this institution in four years , this gift speaks to the dedication and hard work of our many talented BSO musicians including Lachezar Kostov , the chair ’ s inaugural holder . I invite you to read more about the Levines and what such special investments in the endowment mean to the BSO and to musicians such as Lachezar on page 17 .

And last but certainly not least , we expect to welcome the BSO ’ s next President & CEO in the months ahead . Our national search is well underway for an individual whose leadership will shape and guide the trajectory of this organization for years to come . Already , we have been introduced to impressive talent — individuals who are all attracted to the Orchestra ’ s artistic profile , institutional turnaround , and exciting opportunities such as the Music Director search .
