You could see from across the street people were spilling out of the venue ; the steady syncopated bass line escaping out the doors into the crisp air of the night . The Hope and Ruin was warmly lit , and you could feel that exciting , creative buzz as soon as you walked through the door .

What would have been a short journey to the corner of the venue - adorned with her artwork and collection of prints splashed across the table - took substantially longer , as every few people she shimmied past wrapped her up with words of “ well done ” and “ you did amazing .”
I was surrounded by people radiating with support and love for Jasmine and her pieces of artwork hung proudly on the walls of the pub .
The Hope and Ruin pub in Brighton have began hosting ‘ Art Monday ’ to showcase local , upcoming talent- and Jazz put on a hell of a show .
The crowd swayed and bounced to Missing Kat ’ s cover of Thundercat ’ s ‘ Them Changes .’
In her art statement , final year student at The University of Brighton Jasmine , wrote : “ I enjoy curating playlists that contain music that will help me attain a mindset that will encourage creativity .”
Each cover that was played added more clarity to the fact that Jasmine had curated her night to compliment her pieces . The groovy , deep sounds projected from Kat Missing encouraged movement , fluidity , and for the eye to gaze around the room as you let the music take over your body .
My eyes were drawn to the series of three paintings that were titled ‘ Part of the furniture .’ It consists of : ‘ Tabletop ,’ ‘ Chaise lounge ’ and ‘ Burning the candle at both ends .’ Jasmine writes : “ I am constantly intrigued by the human condition ,” and this is evident in the theme of body parts in unconventional positions in the series .
When asked what piece she receives the most questions about , Jasmine pointed to her painting ‘ Easy tiger .’ Saturated with rich green and orange tones , this canvas piece provokes thought and curiosity .
