Itinerary
DAY 1 • Depart U. S. You depart this evening on an overnight flight to Shanghai.
DAY 2 • Fly to Shanghai, China Continue making your way to Shanghai today, losing one day en route as you cross the International Date Line. You regain this day when you fly back to the U. S. at the end of the trip.
DAY 3 • Arrive in Shanghai An O. A. T. representative will greet you at the airport and assist you to your hotel. Fairfield by Marriott Shanghai Jingan
DAY 4 • Explore Yu Garden • The Bund After a Welcome Briefing, we’ ll visit Yu Garden, a botanical oasis featuring all the elements of a classical Chinese garden. Following lunch at a local restaurant, we’ ll set off on a walking tour of the Bund, perhaps the most recognizable area of Shanghai. This evening, we’ ll toast to the discoveries ahead during a Welcome Dinner.

DAY 5 • French Concession This morning, we’ ll walk over to the historic Former French Concession and stroll through the trendy area of Tinazigang. After lunch at a local restaurant, we’ ll drive to the trendy
M50 district to explore its more than 100 artists’ studios.

DAY 6 • Suzhou Today we’ ll discover Suzhou, celebrated for its classical gardens, romantic latticework of canals, and well-preserved traditions.

DAY 7 • Fly to Guilin Head to the airport for our afternoon flight to Guilin, the gateway to some of China’ s most dramatic landscapes. Meals: B, D | Guilin Bravo Hotel or similar
DAY 8 • Cruise the Li River • Fan painting workshop Enjoy a half-day boat tour along the Li River. After lunch onboard the boat, we’ ll disembark at Yangshuo pier and make the short drive to the old town of Fuli, which is famous for its traditional ink-painted fans. We’ ll visit a local workshop where these delicate pieces of art are made and have the opportunity to paint a fan of our own to keep. Meals: B, L | Guilin Bravo Hotel or similar
DAY 9 • A Day in the Life of a Dong village We’ ll take a train to Dong village, where we’ ll experience A Day in the Life of a local Chinese minority group of the same name. We’ ll learn how to make traditional oil tea before helping a local family prepare lunch.
Then, we’ ll be joined by other members of the Dong community for lunch. Then, we’ ll visit a family-run workshop for a hands-on experience with traditional sheng instruments— vertical flutes made of bamboo— before beginning the journey back to Guilin. Meals: B, L | Guilin Bravo Hotel or similar
DAY 10 • Tea garden experience • Lujiacun village dinner Visit a local tea garden nestled in the foothills of the mountains and spend some time with a local tea master, who will reveal the finer points of Chinese tea culture— from cultivation practices to the significance of tea
