DAY 5 • Rio • Optional Stand-up Paddling tour • Hike on Sugarloaf Mountain You can elect to join an optional tour on Copacabana Beach where paddleboards will be provided and you can enjoy an exciting stand-up paddle experience along the calm waters near the Copacabana Fortress. This afternoon, our small group will head over to one of Rio’ s iconic landmarks, Sugarloaf Mountain, which rises 1,299 feet from the water’ s edge. We can get to the top by cable car or more active travelers are welcome to set off on a 45-minute hike along a section of the mountain before completing the journey by cable car to the summit. After enjoying the panoramic views, we’ ll all take the cable car down the mountain and return to the hotel.

DAY 8 • Argentinean side of Falls • Optional Great Adventure tour We’ ll take in the grandeur of the falls from the Argentinean side of Iguassu, where 80 % of the cascades are located. At Iguazu National Park, we’ ll take the ecological train to the Devil’ s Throat Station, where we’ ll walk over to the viewpoint of Garganta del Diablo( Devil’ s Throat), a cluster of towering waterfalls that plunge 260 feet into a roiling cauldron. This afternoon, you can explore on your own or join our Great Adventure optional tour, featuring a jungle trek and motorboat ride through the Iguassu River Canyon and up-close views of different sections of the Falls. DAY 3 • Rio • Christ the Redeemer This morning, we’ ll visit Corcovado, the site of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, rising 124 feet on its pedestal atop 2,300-foot-high Corcovado Mountain, with its outstretched arms spanning 92 feet. Then, back in downtown Rio, we’ ll hop aboard moto-taxis to make our way to the Santa Teresa neighborhood for lunch featuring Brazil’ s national dish, feijoada. The remainder of the day is free, or if anyone wishes to visit Ipanema Beach, our driver can drop you off on the way back to our hotel.

DAY 4 • Rio • Carnival experience • Favela visit We’ ll get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the work that goes into Carnival, Rio’ s iconic yearly festival that welcomes millions of spectators from around the world. We’ ll visit one of the massive warehouses where the famous samba schools spend the entire year preparing their floats, costumes, and dance moves for the annual event. Then, we’ ll visit one of Rio’ s many poor yet vibrant neighborhoods known as favelas to experience another side of everyday life in Rio. After lunch, you’ ll have the remainder of the day free.

DAY 6 • Fly to Iguassu Falls • Brazilian side of Falls This morning, we’ ll fly to Iguassu Falls, nestled at the border between Argentina and Brazil. Nearly twice as high and three times as wide as Niagara Falls, Iguassu Falls is the world’ s largest waterfall system— and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, we’ ll first survey the Falls from the Brazilian side. A stone path leads to several platforms with fine views from different angles. Then, we’ ll cross the border into Argentina and check in to our hotel. Meals: B, D | Loi Suites Iguazu or similar
DAY 7 • Rainforest bicycle tour • Guaraní cooking experience You’ re welcome to rise extra early this morning for a bike tour through the lush jungle landscapes surrounding Iguassu Falls. We’ ll stop during our ride to observe and learn about the native fauna, including diverse butterfly species, toucans, and other varieties of bird. Then, you’ ll have some free time before heading to a local finca( ranch), where we’ ll have lunch and learn how to prepare some traditional dishes of the Guaraní, the indigenous people who have called this region home for centuries. DAY 9 • Return to U. S. We’ ll transfer to the airport this morning and fly to Buenos Aires and then back to the U. S.
