DAY 4 • A Day in the Life of a local village • GCF: Local school visit • Home- Hosted Lunch Today, we’ ll spend A Day in the Life of the Costa Rican village of San Francisco. We’ ll visit a local elementary school, supported in part by Grand Circle Foundation. We’ ll spend some time with the students one-onone, talk with their teachers, and learn about Costa Rica’ s universal educational system. Afterwards, we’ ll enjoy a Home-Hosted Lunch with a local family. Costa Rican cuisine is simple and wholesome, and today’ s lunch will be a casado, a traditional Tico meal of rice and beans, salad, and a main dish prepared with vegetables, meat, or fish.

DAY 1 • Depart U. S. • San José, Costa Rica Fly to San José, where you’ ll meet your fellow travelers, including those who chose to arrive early before the start of their adventure. Studio Hotel Boutique or similar
DAY 2 • La Fortuna • Coffee finca Begin the day with a tour of a family-owned coffee finca, or farm, located on the fertile slopes of Poás Volcano. We’ ll enjoy a tour of the finca, learning how this world-renowned coffee is grown, harvested, processed, and packaged. Later, we’ ll depart for La Fortuna, a land of thermal spas and verdant hills, nestled in the shadow of Arenal Volcano.

DAY 5 • Central Pacific Coast • Arenal Volcano National Park Today, we’ ll discover Arenal Volcano— one of Costa Rica’ s most active volcanoes— and have an opportunity to spot the area’ s tropical wildlife. This national park is home to more than 500 species of birds, including toucans as well as monkeys and coati. Then, we’ ll depart for our hotel in Costa Rica’ s lush Central Pacific Coast region. DAY 6 • Outrigger canoe ride Visit Agujas Beach, a protected cove where we’ ll board an outrigger canoe to catch the spirit of pre-Columbian Costa Rica as we paddle along the ocean, passing steep cliffs and sandy beaches. We’ ll disembark along the white sands of Limoncito Beach where you’ ll have some free time. Tonight, we’ ll enjoy a Farewell Dinner. Meals: B, L, D | Hotel Punta Leona or similar

DAY 3 • Cruise the Río Frío Travel to the Río Frío, where we board a small boat to explore this inland waterway. Keep an eye out for birds, sloths, caimans, turtles, and butterflies during our cruise. Later, we’ ll learn to make a typical Costa Rican bocas( appetizer).

DAY 7 • Rio Tarcoles crocodile cruise • San José This morning, enjoy a cruise through a mangrove forest on the Tarcoles River in search of crocodiles.
