DAY 6 • Overland to Sahara Desert camp
• Off-road Sahara adventure • Meet local desert communities Board 4x4 vehicles and head through the desert to our private tented campsite. Along the way, you’ ll enjoy O. A. T.-exclusive visits with several groups of people that call the desert home, including farmers at an oasis date palm plantation, a remote village known for its traditional Gnawa music, and a nomadic community. Tonight, we’ ll enjoy an Saharan stargazing session, where we can see one of the best night skies in the world. Meals: B, L, D | Bivouac Chergui or similar

DAY 10 • Marrakesh Explore Marrakesh on foot, stopping at the Koutoubia minaret, the Moorish spice market, the opulent Bahia Palace, and the famous medina. Later, you may choose to join your Trip Experience Leader to see a demonstration of Berber weaving.

High Atlas Mountains
the final resting place of three members of the royal family. Renowned for its white marble exterior, the mausoleum is an architectural marvel that perfectly blends traditional Moroccan styles with modern materials. We’ ll also discover the Kasbah Oudeya, a citadel built in the twelfth century.
Then, we’ ll drive to Fez, our next destination, stopping along the way for a tour of Volubilis, a well-preserved ancient Roman city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meals: B, L | Barcelo Hotel Fez or similar

DAY 4 • Fez • Home-Hosted Dinner Set out for a day of exploration in Fez. First, go to the traditional Jewish quarter, the mellah, to visit a 17th-century synagogue. DAY 5 • Overland to Erfoud • Cross the Middle & High Atlas Mountains Our journey into the Sahara begins today, as we drive approximately 300 miles across the Middle Atlas mountain range, winding through beautiful pine groves and giant cedar forests. Later, we descend into Erfoud, a small trading village that is the gateway to the vast Sahara Desert. Along the way, meet with a seminomadic family( when possible) and delve into their way of life. DAY 7 • Overland to Ouarzazate • ksar and Berber Museum of El Khorbat We leave the open desert behind and set off for the oasis town of Ouarzazate, making a stop in Erfoud to learn about the fossils that have been discovered here, as well as the ksar( fortified walled village) of El Khorbat. We’ ll then visit a Berber museum and learn about the history, architecture, and daily life of Berbers in this region. Then we’ ll continue with our overland transfer to Ouarzazate. DAY 8 • Ouarzazate • A Day in the Life of Asfalou village • Home-Hosted Lunch Experience A Day in the Life of Asfalou village for an intimate, up-close look at what life is like in a rural Moroccan village. You’ ll roll up your sleeves to help out with daily tasks around the village. Our host will point us in the direction of the work that needs to be done; you might help him craft bricks, or join his wife and daughters in the fields, where you’ ll tend to the crops and help feed the animals. Some will help prepare the afternoon’ s meal in the kitchen, which we’ ll then share together for a Home-Hosted Lunch, and enjoy a taste of authentic Moroccan cuisine. DAY 9 • Cross High Atlas Mountains • Overland to Marrakesh • Djemaa El Fna • Horse-drawn calèche ride Travel through the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakesh. Along the way, pause high above narrow green valleys to take in sweeping views. Once we arrive in Marrakesh, we’ ll check into our riad, a traditional Moroccan house centered around a courtyard. Tonight, walk to the iconic Djemna El Fna outdoor market a to sample food from the street stalls.

DAY 11 • Return to U. S. Transfer to the Marrakesh airport for your flight back to the U. S.
