DAY 8 • Svalbard We may cruise by a vast expanse of sea ice. Keep an eye out for polar bears as they hunt for seals and native birds such as kittiwakes.

DAY 9 • Svalbard Weather permitting, we’ ll attempt Zodiac landings on nearby islands. Watch for walruses that often haul out of the sea to rest.

DAY 10 • Svalbard We’ ll attempt to visit cliffs that are home to Brünnich’ s guillemots, gulls, and kittiwakes. If we’ re fortunate, we may be able to spot an Arctic fox scavenging for food along the coastline.

DAY 3 • Oslo • Vigeland Park
|
Visit Vigeland Park, an open-air gallery featuring bold depictions of the human form, which you’ ll witness during a walking tour through the exhibit. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner.

DAY 4 • Oslo Depart by tram for an urban hike of Oslo, featuring a stroll along the Aker River.

DAY 11 • Svalbard We aim to take Zodiacs to a nesting site for blacklegged kittiwakes. Depending on the weather, we may make multiple shore landings today.

DAY 12 • Svalbard We’ ll have an opportunity to learn about climate change, and if we’ re lucky, we may witness calving glaciers. Later, we might board a Zodiac to shore and come face-to-face with one of these frozen giants.

DAY 13 • Svalbard We might land at Recherchefyorden, where piles of beluga whale skeletons can be found. These are remains from the 19th century whale slaughter, and are a reminder of the scars that mankind has left on even the most untouched of places. Tonight, gather for a Farewell Dinner onboard.

DAY 6 • Svalbard Weather permitting, we may board Zodiacs to go ashore at Ny Alesund, the world’ s most northerly settlement, where Roald Amundsen set off on his 1926 flight to the North Pole. Afterwards, we will set sail among the towering mountains and expansive fjords. |

DAY 7 • Svalbard If conditions allow, embark on a Zodiac cruise somewhere along Spitzbergen’ s rugged west coast and at the foot of sprawling glaciers. This remote region once served as a base for whale hunting in the 17th century.

DAY 15 • Return to U. S. Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Or, begin your post-trip extension in Copenhagen, Denmark.
