DAY 8 • Early morning canoe excursion • Wildlife viewing on the Ariau River
Visit a local village to meet with members of an indigenous community and learn about everyday life in the remote Amazon. Later, take a tour of the Ariau River by motorized canoe, with an opportunity to swim. After a Farewell Dinner onboard the ship, enjoy a caipirinha demonstration, Brazil’ s famous national cocktail.

DAY 9 • Cruise the“ Meeting of the Waters” • Disembark ship • Fly to Brasília
On our way back to Manaus, our ship will pause at the“ Meeting of the Waters,” a magical site where the pale waters of the Upper Amazon collide with the dark waters of the Rio Negro. We’ ll disembark in Manaus and fly to Brasília this afternoon.

DAY 14 • Fly to Rio de Janeiro After breakfast, transfer to the airport in Cuiabá for our return flight to Rio.

DAY 15 • Rio • Sugarloaf Mountain • Return to U. S.
This morning, take a cable car ride to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, one of Rio’ s most iconic landmarks, where we can take in panoramic views of the city. Later this afternoon, we’ ll head to the airport for our return flights to the U. S., or to begin your optional post-trip extension to Iguassu Falls: Thundering Cascades of Argentina & Brazil.

Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the work that goes into Carnival at one of the massive warehouses where samba schools spend the entire year preparing for the annual event. Later, experience another side of local life during our Life in Rio’ s favelas optional tour.

DAY 5 • Fly to Manaus Fly to Manaus, situated where the upper Amazon River and its biggest tributary in Brazil, the Rio Negro, meet.

DAY 6 • Manaus • Embark Rio Negro cruise Explore Manaus, beginning at Mercado Municipal, a marketplace built as a replica of the Parisian Les Halles market. Then visit Teatro Amazonas, an opera house designed to bring the grandeur of Europe to the Amazon. This afternoon, we embark the M / V Anna Beatriz for our Rio Negro cruise.

DAY 7 • Rainforest walk • Canoeing in Anavilhanas National Park
Set off on a walk in the surrounding rainforest, followed by an opportunity to swim in the Rio Negro, whose waters are home to friendly pink river dolphins. Later,

DAY 10 • Brasília • Optional outrigger canoe paddling tour • Dinner with local family
Set off on a city tour of Brasília, whose futuristic architecture prompted UNESCO to designate the entire city a World Heritage Site. This afternoon, you can join an optional tour to paddle an outrigger canoe along Lake Paranoá. This evening, enjoy dinner with a local family in Brasilia.

DAY 11 • Fly to the Pantanal • Nighttime wildlife viewing
Fly to Cuiabá, a city at the edge of the Pantanal, the largest wetland area on Earth. After transferring to our lodge, we’ ll have a talk on the Pantanal and enjoy dinner tonight.

DAY 12 • The Pantanal • Horseback ride • Forest walk
We rise before dawn today to enjoy the beauty of the sunrise from motorized canoes. Then, we’ ll take a horseback ride along wetland trails and a boat ride around the Pantanal. We return to our lodge for lunch, we’ ll off for a guided walk through the forest to further explore our natural surroundings.

DAY 13 • Sunrise boat tour • A Day in the Life of a Pantanal fishing village
After an early morning boat tour, we’ ll spend A Day in the Life of a small fishing community in the Pantanal. We’ ll meet three generations of village residents, and local fishermen will show us how they catch piranha
