DAY 9 • Manuel Antonio National Park Explore Manuel Antonio National Park, a critical habitat for migrating birds. The park is also one of only two habitats in the country for the endangered squirrel monkey. We’ ll keep an eye out for one as we walk along the nature trails.

DAY 10 • Rainforest spices tour • Overland to San Gerardo de Dota
Tour the Villa Vanilla Spice Plantation, an organic spice farm. Explore the grounds before partaking in a tasting of spice-infused treats. Later, depart for San Gerardo de Dota.

DAY 11 • San Gerardo de Dota • Morning Quetzal search
Explore San Gerardo de Dota, resting in a pastoral valley carpeted with apple and peach trees. Early this morning, we’ ll set out to spot the Resplendent Quetzal. This rare bird was sacred to the Maya, and considered to be an incredible achievement to spot by modern bird watchers.

DAY 12 • San José Today, we explore San José. Begin at the Parque Nacional, which celebrates the country’ s history. Then, visit historic plazas, markets, and iconic buildings— including the Plaza de la Cultura. Tonight, wish each other adios during a Farewell Dinner.

DAY 13 • Return to U. S. Transfer to the airport for your flight home, or begin your post-trip extension to Costa Rica’ s Caribbean Coast: Tortuguero National Park.

On Day 4, spend A Day in the Life of the village of Santa Esperanza, where you’ ll meet the head of a local Women’ s Association and sit down for a traditional meal.
