DAY 11 • Bukhara • Overland to Khiva Experience the Silk Road the way centuries of merchants did, traveling across the Kyzylkum Desert on our way to Khiva. We’ ll stop for a picnic-style lunch at a local tea house.

DAY 12 • Walking tour of Khiva’ s Old Town Tour Khiva’ s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ ll visit Tash Hauli Palace, the rebuilt 9th-century

DAY 13 • Khiva • Overland to Nukus After a free morning to explore in Khiva, travel overland to Nukus, capital of the autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan.

DAY 14 • Nukus • Visit Savitsky Museum • Dinner with a local family
Visit the Savitsky Museum, also known as the State Art Museum of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The museum represents the life work of Russian painter Igor Savitsky, which he kept hidden from the KGB in this remote desert location. Later, we’ ll visit a private home to share dinner with a local family and hear a performance of traditional music.

DAY 15 • Fly to Tashkent Transfer to the airport for a flight to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Our group will toast to our discoveries this evening during a Farewell Dinner.

DAY 16 • Return to U. S. After breakfast, fly to the U. S. via Istanbul. Or, begin your post-trip extension to Highlights of Kyrgyzstan & Kazakhstan.
