dents with the Connecticut Boat America / PWC course. Mr. Alarcon who is also an instructor for the Boat America course for the Auxiliary, met with Eva Bartush, who is the Department Chair of Marine Sciences at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, home of the Senators.
As a result, the Boat America class became part of the marine studies curriculum. In February 2023, the first class of 81 students was held at the Brien McMahon High School. The instructors were Patrick Alarcon, FC72, Joe DeFranco FSO- PE and Robert Talley FSO-MT. In addition to the Boat America course, Robert Talley provided a complementary class about Emergency Radio Communications. Flotilla 72 conducts numerous Public Education classes virtually and in-classroom. The classes for Brian McMahon High School were conducted in the school marine science lab, surrounded by many aquariums of tropical and local species of fish who are maintained by the students of marine sciences.
