HE FIRST SAFE BOATING COURSE OF THE YEAR since Brianna's Law

came into effect was offered by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 014-01-04 at the Lindenhurst Rainbow Center. Lindy residents young and old came together and were honored to receive a visit from Gina Costa Lieneck, the Long Island mom responsible for helping to make our waterways safer.

Gina and her family were victims of a tragic boating accident 14 years ago and she worked to bring awareness to the need for more education for boaters and small craft operators. The new laws take effect January 1, 2020, and a safety certificate is a requirement for youth operating motorized watercraft as early as this year.

The rules are designed to help reduce the number of preventable incidents on the water.

Sincere thanks to the men and women of the Lindenhurst Flotilla for making this serious course, fun, informative and interesting! Special thank you to Mayor Mike Lavorata and Joan Masterson, Lindenhurst Village Trustee, for providing the classroom at the Rainbow Center. The only thing more tragic than an untimely death is a preventable one. Knowledge is Power! Lindy Cares! Honorable Mention Flotilla Trainers: JoEllen Koestner-Krut, Hans Kuenstler, Gary Lerner, Rick Cohen, James Luisi, Frank Porstner, Joan Masterson and George Duguid.
