Leading the Way into the New Year

We all must continue to strive to achieve the utmost in our efforts to support all RBS initiatives and missions. The Auxiiary was created to attend to these missions. Thank you for what you do every day, and thank you for who are.

This year has been a blur! It seems like we just started Boating Season and now the Holiday Season is upon us. It has been a very busy and interesting first year as your Commodore.

You have accomplished many firsts. The Regional Base Training sessions that were created in a flash were more successful than any of us could have imagined . Our Awards Banquet was as huge success thanks to the Awards Committee and all who assisted and attended the luncheon.

First in participation and contribution during the government shutdown in January 2019, your integrity, compassion, and fortitude was evident as you came together as one team to assist our Active Duty brothers and sisters.

We must maintain vigilance in the event another shutdown occurs in the near or far future. Remember those who cannot be home during this holiday season. Reach out if you can and give them a home away from home. Semper Paratus never meant so much as now! I am so very proud of each and every one of you! Thank you for being the First in everything you do!

Thank you to the LDA Committee who spent many hours / days since August finalizing the many moving parts that make this one of the premier leadership resident courses in the country. Our Combined D-Train with D1NR scheduled for 6-8 March 2020 is off and running. We are working to establish a Staff Officers College that will be modeled on our successful Leadership Development Academy. This program will offer all staff officers the opportunity to learn about responsibilities and the importance of their leadership.

Fleet Week in NYC with over 100 members assisting our active duty units in many ways as in New London, local units participated in Sail Fest and fireworks over the Thames. The Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary were well represented at both NYC Marathon and The New York City Veterans Day Parade.

We all must continue to strive to achieve the utmost in our efforts to support all RBS initiatives and missions. The Auxiliary was created to attend to these missions. The importance of saving lives and property cannot be overstated! Recreational Boating Safety is who we are. I urge you to recruit interested and qualified members. If each one of us recruit just one person in one year, we will double the membership in our district…Just One More.

Thank you for what you do every day. Thank you for who you are, Thank you for the love and support you have shown Peggy and me during a very trying and stressful year, and most of all please have a Happy, Safe, and Joyous Holiday Season!

Respectfully,

Bill Bowen
