79th Anniversary
Radio Day
EW YORK FLOTILLAS celebrated the 79th anniversary of the
Coast Guard Auxiliary’s founding by taking part in an annual
tradition. Units from the area utilized their communications equipment to contact flotillas from around the globe. In true Coast Guard spirit, Auxiliarists met aboard the now-retired USCGC Lilac (WAGL-227) and the Baylander (IX-514), a former U.S. Navy aircraft carrier that saw action in Vietnam and later served to train pilots in helicopter landings.
