IDS' WEEK at the
Intrepid was held
on February 17th to 23rd. This year’s theme was “Full STEAM ahead”, aimed at teaching kids Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math:“STEAM”.
Kids and families enjoyed the live shows from the Beardsley Zoo, Stamford Museum & Nature Center, NASA astronauts, Museum of Interesting Things and members from the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. This year’s turnout exceeded the 25,000 they had last year.
All activities were interactive and the Coast Guard Auxiliary's Display was impressive, with many members from District First Southern region interacting with the kids and families. The Auxiliary’s members spoke with kids and families on topics about the environment, invasive species, marine safety, boating safety and terminology. All the kids who participated and interacted with the displays got coloring books and stickers.
The two big hits of the day were the Coast Guard paper airplanes and the SAR vest and Coast Guard helmet they got to try on. Parents lined up to take photos of their children dressed up as Coasties. This year’s display accounted for 75 percent of the total public turnout. Good job by all who turned out to assist, thank you and Semper Paratus.
