What an exciting time!
We have so many great things coming our way. Having just returned from N-Train in Saint Louis with DCO Alex Malewski, DirAux CDR Moose and IPDCO/ANACO Vin Pica, I received a first-hand look into the future of the Auxiliary and we are an organization on the move and that move is forward.
Public education will be bolstered by new e-book offerings to be known as the Seamanship Seminar Series and a new, online navigation course known as Modern Marine Navigation.
There is now a series of six leadership videos on the T Department Directorate and Flotillas are encouraged to view one of the videos during a meeting each quarter. The videos are short, but each delivers a powerful message.
The Auxiliary is also looking into producing monthly “YouTube” type videos, in addition to a series of short uniform videos.
Also on the horizon is a “Did you know?” database.
Speaking of did you know, did you know that this August will mark the 225th anniversary of the US Coast Guard? There will be many exciting events and activities in our AOR to celebrate this milestone and Auxilarists are encouraged to participate. More details follow.
In closing, I’d like to look back. Back onto 2014 and with pride, advise you 2014 recorded an all-time low in boating casualties. I’m convinced that this was due to increased efforts in our RBS focus areas.
The Vessel Examiner manual and exam have been rewritten and each of the AuxOp courses is being revised.
We will be expanding the capability of the Skills Bank to identify member capabilities and subsequently align those skills with Coast Guard and Auxiliary needs.
