Major League Auxiliary Lineup for Mets Spirit Award

New York – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary received the New York Mets’ Spirit Award for Community Service at Citi Field with over 600 members, family, and friends of Team Coast Guard in attendance on September 26, 2014.

In honor of the Auxiliary’s 75 years of service, the Mets Spirit Award saluted the Auxiliary’s excellence in spirit of community service. Commodore Vincent Pica II, Commodore Alex Malewski, Commodore Harold Marschal, and Commander Laura Moose, First Southern Region Director of Auxiliary, accepted the Spirit Award for the Auxiliary from the Mets. According to First Southern District Public Affairs Officer Louis DiGiusto, the Mets Game was one of the “largest gatherings of Team Coast Guard in the history of the First Southern Region.”

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Band provided a major league Auxiliary presence in the pregame ceremony at Citi Field. Introduced as the “Commodore’s Own,” the band led by Keith Schmidt played a pregame concert in front of Citi Field which was displayed inside on the Mets’ biggest stadium screen. In addition, a communications trailer was open for public display.
