Over The Bow Vol 76 Issue 2 Fall 2018 | Page 7

All seventeen Divisions have been active and busily contributing to the duties and responsibilities of every aspect of Auxiliary operations. From patrols, to regattas, to SAR, to overflights. Everything we do supports our missions for the Coast Guard and boating public.

Our concentration on Paddle Craft and the lakes, rivers, Sound and ocean wherever Paddle Craft can be found, have been saturated by D1SR’s dedicated and concerned members. Educating, and casually befriending the paddle craft public has helped reduce the number of incidents and SAR cases. We must continue our concentrated efforts in this most important part of RBS.

Our FS (Food Service) personnel continue to support and win praise from the Coast Guard wherever they are being utilized. A good case was during the highly successful Fleet Week this May in New York. Everyone involved performed outstanding and I was very impressed by what I saw and how the public was engaged. Aboard the newly commissioned FRC (Fast Response Cutter), USCGC Richard Snyder, I was fortunate to be given a tour by the Commanding Officer, LT Andrew Norberg. His praise of our team and especially our FS who took over for his active duty CS (Culinary Specialists) was amazing!

A special BZ to all involved in the planning and execution of all Fleet Week activities.

So much was involved in NACON this year, and the highlights were the elections of our very own District Commodore Gus Formato as Deputy National Commodore (DNACO), Atlantic East, Recreation Boating Safety, and the current DNACO Alex Malewski to the new Vice National Commodore! D1SR leads the way!

Our own District elections were held at the quarterly Board and Staff meeting at Sector NY. I was fortunate to be elected as your next District Commodore and Mark Stone as your next District Chief of Staff. The following members were elected: Paul Provonost, DCAPT, Sector LIS-N, John Traganos, DCAPT, Sector LIS-S, Valerie Ramsberger, DCAPT, Sector NY-S, and Mike West, DCAPT, Sector NY-N. We have a great team in place and will continue to support the policies and procedures put forth by both Commodore Formato and Commodore Malewski in moving this District forward while maintaining First Southern as Always First!

Thank you all for your wonderful support!

Respectfully,

Bill Bowen
