Talk Back
Double Whammy
The cover story On the Edge made a
timely read. The next one year or so
will be interesting times for all of us.
The rising oil prices and falling rupee
is a kind of double whammy. Plus it
seems that RBI has to further hike repo
rates to rein in inflation and loans are
going to get costlier. Interestingly, it
is also the year before the assembly
elections so the government is likely
to come up with big spending in the
social sector as well. I think that
long- term investors would do well
to stick to the basics, keep the SIPs going and see through this phase
because good time will be back again sooner rather than later.

My Plan
I am a regular reader of Outlook
Money and the My Plan section
is one of my favourites. While
different people have different
financial requirements, the basics
of financial planning remain the
same. One thing I have learnt and
applied to my finances is that first
it is important to get proper health
and life insurance, after which one
should look to invest their money.
Many people tend to forget this and
then it is like a batsman facing a fast
bowler without putting pads and
helmet on.

Credit Card
The story Choose Your Reward
was worth reading as I feel that
many of us are unaware of the fact
that credit cards can fetch us so
many interesting rewards. Many
of us might not know about all the
features of a credit card and so lag
behind in utilising its maximum
potential and power. Who doesn’t
want a discount in shopping malls?
When we travel we can use reward
points to get free access to airport
lounges which really help when one
has to wait a long time at the airport.
This story will help maximise the
potential use of a credit card and
I look forward to read more such
stories in the future.

Going Cashless
Credit cards are actually your friend
in need since they come in handy
when you need them. In the era of
a cashless economy, credit cards
have played a very significant role
in every person’s life. Be it while
booking a ticket or shopping or any
other spending activity, credit card
has its own benefits. I’ve been a
credit card holder since two years
and credit cards have definitely
made our life easier. Carrying
money in hand has a risk factor of
theft but credit cards eliminate that
risk. However, one should inform
the bank immediately in case of loss
of a credit card.
