“My beautfiul time in Yogakarta and Australia”
“It was February 2016 when Jelco Witteveen and I went to Indonesia for our graduation project. We
did an internship at an international college in Yogakarta. Wow, this was so great to do. Not only
the college that offered our internships. Everything around that made it a fantastic experience. The
culture, the food, the nature and the people... Just wow. We were working five days per week from
7:30 till 16:30. The heat made it hard, but luckily we had airco in our office! Half the week we were
teaching in gym and health lessons (always outside in more than 30+ degrees). In the other half we
were working on our thesis.
Teaching in gym was the best way to get to know the children. Thanks to this we could adapt our
knowledge of the children lifestyle in the health lessons. My thesis was about the measurement of
the current physical activity at the schoolyard. Based on the results I created an advice report with a
décor of the new campus schoolyard. I have also asked the children to create their ideal schoolyard.
It was magnificent to see the fantasy of the children.
Every week we had two days off. We always tried to make use of it by visiting all the fantastic sights
in Indonesia. Every weekend was special. We climbed a volcano in the middle of the night and
walked down beautiful white beaches on the islands near Karimunjawa. I can’t describe how won-
derful these experiences were.
After finishing our thesis’s Jelco and I had time to do some-
thing else. We had already decided to travel with a car/camper
through Australia for a month. An amazing time and some-
thing which I can recommend to everyone who is just gradu-
ated. There is so much more to tell. If you would like to hear
more, you can always mail me: [email protected]
I wish you all the best with your bachelor!”
