Student Experiences Madrid (2016) - Christiaan van der Worp “Madrid was one of the best choices during my study” “Every day the sun, a university that looks like a tropical paradise and a huge city that lives 24 hours a day. I think that is the best subscription of my time in Madrid. Together with three friends of my study I went to Madrid. The first weeks of living were a complete live changer. There were people around all the time. But when your used to it, it is absolutely fan- tastic. Madrid has a lot of beautiful parks, rooftop terraces and sights. Therefore it is not needed to stay in your apartment. HelpMadrid is a great organisation to take care of all your business. Think of housing and lots of other handy information. Moncloa and Arguelles are known student areas in Madrid. HelpMadrid is weekly organising some nice parties. It sounds strange, but the best parties are held on Monday. You will see and meet people from every corner of the world. Baltic States Lithuanian Sports University (Kaunas), Lithuania Website: http://www.lsu.lt/en When you think of a sports nation you will not probably think about Lithuania. Although Lithuania breaths sports just as we do in the Netherlands. Especially basketball is highly popular in this Baltic state. Because of this it is not surprisingly that Lithuania has its own sports university: the LSU. My Erasmus+ program was a self-composed program. This means that I have chosen my own courses, equal to 30 EC. The Universidad Europea de Madrid is magnificent. You think you are in paradise. Every time you go there. A small disadvantage is that the university is about one hour off the city centre. And yes, then you are still in Madrid. The classes are international formed and the way of teaching are slightly different than we are used to be in the Netherlands. A lot of practical assignments, visits to organisations, presentations and little exams. An exchange semester or two at the LSU is letting you participate in classes in the capital of Lithu- ania: Kaunas. The university offers a number of English non-degree courses (click), specific for ex- change students. Together with your departmental coordinator you can create your personal study plan. From sport management related courses till public health related courses. The LSU is offering it all with well respected professors/teachers. For a handy step-by-step application procedure, click here. I could and would like to tell you way more about my experi- ence. But simply I just recommend to go and experience your semester abroad. One tip: save money before you go. Madrid is an amazing city, but expensive too.
