For years, Marc and Mandy swore they would never build from scratch. Renovating was their wheel house. Everything changed when the opportunity arose to build their dream family cottage. The following year, they decided to build their dream home in the country. The building bug had bitten, and they fell in love with the process. This year, they’ re taking everything they’ ve learned and launching a new adventure: building a spec home with their own construction company.
The first steps to creating a cozy home involve many of the things you don’ t see; a strong foundation, excellent insulation and the like. With the help of Joe and his team from Access Framing, they poured the footings and laid Superform ICF blocks— an industry leader in foundation materials— ensuring the home would be warm, strong, and energy efficient. To fill the ICF blocks, Agassiz Concrete Pumping made quick work of delivering concrete exactly where it was needed, navigating the soft ground with ease.
Next, Marc and Mandy turned to their go-to lumber supplier, RONA +, for all the framing materials. Everything was delivered straight to the site, making the process seamless. Marc and Joe got to work, framing the floors and walls, and installing the trusses. The home features Berdick Windows and Doors for increased energy efficiency which beautifully compliment the stunning James Hardie siding in Mountain Sage from DOMAN. This rich green hue blends beautifully with the surrounding landscape. Fusion Stone’ s Bay Stone accents in Barrow added rugged texture, giving the exterior a sophisticated yet natural feel. For the decks, Regal Ideas’ white railing with glass inserts provided a polished touch while keeping sight lines open to take full advantage of breathtaking views. Integrity Roofing installed BP Canada’ s Signature Collection shingles, giving the home a durable and polished finish.
To keep things cozy and quiet, the house was insulated with premium Johns Manville insulation. James Fulcher from Johns Manville suggested additional insulation in key areas— between the laundry room, ensuite, and primary bedroom— to reduce noise, an idea Marc and Mandy loved. Then, Marc and Mandy collaborated with Chad from Get Wired to map out the home’ s electrical plan, ensuring convenience and efficiency. At the same time, Marc’ s longtime friend, Serge, took on the plumbing rough-ins, while Myles and his team from Air Masters Mechanical
