ON JUNE 2 at Holiday Brook Farm in Dalton , a new generation of mountain bikers will take the trails , carrying on a long-standing tradition of mountain biking in the hills behind this idyllic Berkshire farm .
Holiday Brook Farm , a 1,300-acre gem owned by dedicated farmer Dicken Crane , is more than just a backdrop for its first New England Youth Cycling ( NEYC ) race . With a rich history intertwined with community and land preservation , this fourth-generation family farm has been managed sustainably since the early 20th century .
The farm ’ s roots trace back to a time when it was part of Flintstone Farm , a 3,000 + acre farm amassed by Fred Crane Sr . ( The Crane family owned and operated one of the last family owned paper companies in the United States in Dalton .)
