The Pan-Mass Challenge ( PMC ) has long been a cornerstone of cycling fundraising , known for its road rides that span the state of Massachusetts and raise millions for cancer research . In 2024 , the PMC has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $ 75 million . Since its inception in 1980 , the PMC has raised $ 972 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute , and this year , it is on track to surpass over $ 1 billion raised for cancer research and treatment . The PMC Unpaved event , an extension of this storied bike-a-thon , exemplifies the unique blend of adventure and philanthropy that defines the PMC .
Held for the first time in 2022 , PMC
Unpaved is a gravel cycling event taking place in the Berkshires each fall . This year ’ s event is scheduled for September 28 , offering participants the choice between 30-mile and 50-mile routes through the scenic and rugged terrain of the Berkshires . Cyclists from all walks of life come together with a common goal : to raise funds for cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute .
The fundraising commitment for either route — 30 miles or 50 miles — is $ 1,500 , 100 percent of which goes directly to Dana-Farber . Riders have until November 1 , to reach their fundraising minimum
