Four outdoor technique to try
1)Traffic trails
Find an elevated viewpoint
overlooking a busy road
or roundabout,mount your
camera on a tripod and use
an exposure of 30-60 seconds
to record moving traffic as
colorful light trails.Include
floodlit buldings or the dusk
sky for added interest.This is
the ideal time of year as dusk
and rush hour coincide.Just
take care with the traffic.
2)Floodlit buildings
Another classic low light
subject that’s accesible
to all accesible to all.
Churches,castle,monument
,cathedrals,everytown and
city has its fair share of floodlit
buldings.For best
results,shoot at twilight while
there’s still color in the sky
and enough daylight so shadows aren’t yet dark and colorful floodlighting stands out.
3)Star trails
Get as far away from civilisation as you can on clear night
and use a long exposure to
record stars in the sky as
trails of light.Point your widest lens toward the northern
sky so you include the pole
star(polaris),lock your camera’s shutter open on bulb for
two hours at f/4 on iso 200
and see what happens.You be
amazed by the results.
4)Painting with light
Find an old building that’s
unlight,then as it begins to
get dark,use repeated bursts
from a handheld flashgun
set to manual t illuminate the
exterior,while your camera’s
shutter is locked on open bulb
.Use filters to color the light
if your like instead of using
a flashgun,you could use a
powerful torch and see what
results you can produce.
