I ve been so fortunate to be able to actually design the equipment that I pro-
mote. It’s rare that an athlete is given that opportunity. Personally that has
motivated me to really pour my ideas and time into the equipment I create.”

design. I surf and snowboard, and I
pull from those worlds. Anyone who
surfs and or snowboards can really feel
the difference when they get on a fish
shape. The swallow tail, and tapered
outline feels totally different.
You also have your own line of out-
erwear and gear with Dakine, when
did that start? What is your role in
designing jackets, pants, etc..?
I’ve been skiing for Dakine since
around ‘99. The past five years or
so I’ve designed quite a few pieces
for them. It’s really rewarding work.
Customizing the equipment I use to ski
and snowboard. I go from ideation, to
drawings, protos, samples, to market.
I’m just as involved in the outerwear as
I am in ski design.
I am hoping all the readers are
familiar with the movie “Idea”, but
basically it was the beginning of the
Nimbus crew (you, Pep, and Andy
Mahre), what has the Nimbus crew
been up to recently? Will there be
more from this crew or have you all
turned a page at this point?
From 2007 on we skied together almost
exclusively. We made a lot of movies
together. Our last project together was
in 2015/16 “After The Sky Falls”. We
created a book, film, and GoPro series
for that project. Since then we haven’t
made a movie together. We all still ski
together, but each of us are fathers,
and we all have a lot of other things
going on. I hope we can work together
again one day, but maybe not.
