Scott grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and started surfing
at the age of 10. After graduating from College in South
Carolina, Scott moved to Aspen Colorado for 15 years.
In Aspen, Scott worked at Cache Cache restaurant and
spent 4 months a year traveling to surf and rock climb.
He traveled to Indonesia, West Australia, Mexico, Hawaii,
Costa Rica and New Zealand to name a few. S cott moved
to Bend Oregon 17 years ago to raise a family. He has
been a realtor for the past 16 years. Scott spent the first
2 years at Windemere and has been with Coldwell Banker
for the past 14. He continues to surf on the Oregon coast
and travels to California, Hawaii, Mexico and Nicaragua
with his two sons and wife. He also really enjoys the addi-
tion of the river wave in Bend.
Kiley Remund grew up in the epicenter of American surfing. At 12, he started
surfing the Santa Cruz breaks and by 15 he was already shaping boards. In
2000, Kiley moved to Bend. He could tell right away that the paddleboard scene
here was building. Kiley figured with his shaping skills he could build paddle-
boards for people who wanted more custom shapes.
Today, World on Water builds flat water boards and KR Surf builds all surf mod-
els. Kiley Remund has built a great reputation as a board shaper. His custom
work is sought after and the word has spread. Kiley’s Santa Cruz roots have
served him well in Bend. Now he and his wife get away for surf time on the
Oregon Coast.
DOC BROWN
Chiropractor
Doc Brown Chiropractic & Wellness
Dr. Stanley Brown, DC, also known as “Doc Brown” to his patients, grew up surfing in the Santa Cruz, California
area. He developed a passion for the sport when he was 10 years old on a trip to Kauai. Brown remembers falling
in love with surfing, “Every summer we would go to our beach house in Santa Cruz from the day school was out
and stay until the day before school started up again. I had a real love for the ocean.”
“We grew up riding rafts, then boogie boards but it wasn’t until I actually stood up on a board in Kauai that I realized
the pure energy of the waves. From that day forward, surfing was the only thing on my mind. Surfing is a balance of
the beauty of nature, excitement of exploration all topped off with the adrenaline rush of riding powerful waves; it
was the perfect balance for me.”

Gerry Lopez was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a
young teen, he fell in love with surfing and hasn’t looked back
since. Water is life, and Gerry’s life has centered around “water”
in many forms. Gerry became well known around the surfing
world for his big wave and tube riding. His skills got him in all
the surf magazines, films, on competition podiums, accolades
like “Waterman of the Year,” and the nickname, “Mr. Pipeline.”
Shaping surfboards came early and naturally to Gerry. With a
friend, Jack Shipley, he started Lightning Bolt Surfboards in
1970. To this day, Gerry Lopez still shapes boards right here in
Bend, Oregon. Gerry Lopez Surfboards are hand built from start
to finish. Gerry does all the shaping while friends and expert
board builders Roger and Aaron do the painting, glassing, sand-
ing, and finishing. Then Gerry Lopez puts his signature on every
board. Each Lopez board is a work of art custom made for the
client’s surfing style. The line is extensive and now includes
boards built for the Bend river wave.
On a snowboarding trip in 1992 with wife Toni and son Alex,
the Lopez’s fell in love with Bend and have lived here ever
since. To this day, surfing is at the forefront of Gerry Lopez’s life
and daily routine. Luckily for him, the town of Bend opened a
river wave in 2016. The river wave satisfies him until the next
surf trip comes up. Over the years, yoga became as important
to him as surfing. Gerry often is invited to teach at yoga festi-
vals and hosts surf and yoga retreats around the globe.
“I wasn’t introduced to chiropractic until my early twenties. I injured my hip and lower back while surfing and it was
chronically affecting my ability to be active. I went to a chiropractor, had amazing results and a new passion was
born. I let my surfboards gather some dust and enrolled in Palmer Chiropractic College West. After graduating, I
moved to Bend to be with my mother who moved up here in the 1980’s. I opened up my practice in Bend in 1998
and have been here ever since. I don’t surf as much as I used to, but now it’s not about the quantity of waves, but
more about the quality.”
JORMA NAGEL
New Era Granite
www.neweragranite.com
A resident of Bend for nearly 15 years, and an Oregonian since 1997, Jorma
Nagel has found his love of the NW and tapped its numerous adventurous
resources. An avid snowboarder, skateboarder, mountain biker and surfer,
Jorma immerses himself in all that Bend and the surrounding areas have to
offer. He can frequently be found rippin’ up the river park or smashing pillows
at Bachelor. Bend offers him the ability to run his own granite stone busi-
ness while breaking away often to satisfy his need for water and fun. Jorma’s
business, New Era Granite, has been breaking barriers and creating some of
Central Oregon’s finest custom granite work in construction, both old and new,
for the last 4 years.
Born on the southern Oregon coast, and relocated to southern California as a
toddler, Jorma spent his childhood surfing and skating in and around New-
port Beach. In high school, he found a new love of snow as a resident of the
Yosemite Valley and soaked up all the outdoor adventure the mountains had
to offer. After high school, Jorma bounced around between Tahoe and Santa
Barbara, focusing on maximizing the seasons. He worked briefly as a barista,
an instructor at Heavenly, and a chef.
His hunger for adventure and drive to push limits has helped give Jorma the
drive and focus that has helped make New Era Granite successful.
