RIKA TUREL
Rika Turel is a fine artist who was
born in Tokyo, Japan. After high
school, she moved to New York
City to study art at New York Studio
School.
As a child, her goal was to become
a painter. After art school, she stud-
ied in Massachusetts before moving
to San Francisco. During her first
marriage she designed and built
her first home in 1989, a log cabin
south of Bend. When that marriage
ended, Rika moved to Bend and
bought a piece of land just off 11th
street on the Eastside. There, Rika
would design and build a much
different home. Much of Rika’s art
pieces are on very large canvas, so
she needed a large studio space
as well as large walls to display her
art. The house is modern, like her
art, lots of glass, everything is white,
interior and exterior, with a hint
of Frank Lloyd Wright meets the
Hamptons.
Rika’s art has caught the eye of
writers in the past. She has been
written up in the New York Times
as well as locally in the Bend Bul-
letin. Rika paints with her emotions
“I PAINT WITH MY EMOTIONS NOT MY EYES”
and never plans a piece, as she puts it, “I paint with my emotions not my eyes”.
Rika loves the outdoors and designed her backyard as a sanctuary. She enjoys hiking, bik-
ing and yoga. Her husband, Stan Turel, is also a painter, has a successful accounting firm
in Bend and is an author of a non-fiction mystery book about the murder of his father.
Together they have a young son and two great danes.
Rika does not have any art in local galleries. A private appointment can be made to view
the art at her home through the website. www.rikaturel.com.
