CALEB ELY
Age: 16
School: Summit
Camera/video gear: Nikon D3400, DJI Mavic Air, GoPro Hero 7 Black with Karma Grip
Favorite Subjects: Skiing, surfing, biking, stars, and mountains
Caleb’s first camera was was a Gopro Hero 3 when he was around 11 years old. He
really got into it a couple years ago when his mom got a DSLR camera for Christmas.
Eventually, the camera was passed down to him. He learned most of his skills from
watching behind the scenes of movies, Youtube, and photographers locally that shared
some of their settings for their awesome photos. Caleb elaborated, “I have kinda always
known a good photo from a bad one but learning what makes a photo good and how to
do that is still being improved upon every time I shoot”.
Caleb has learned to progress by getting inspiration from pro photographers online, but
to make them his own by changing them a little. He says, “I change them a little or take
half of the idea so it is really my photo out there.” Other than action sports, he has been
learning to take pictures of the night sky and landscapes.
Caleb Ely is inspired by many in the field but those that he looks up to most are Clay
Porter and Teton Gravity Research. On the local side, Caleb follows and is inspired by
photographers Pete Alport and Trevor Lyden. Caleb loved the movie “HOJI” and “UnReal”
is one of his all time favorites. Old ski films, “Like There is No Tomorrow” are a classic
favorite and he was recently impressed by TGR’s “Far Out”.
