A patient’s ability as well as activity level are considered. For example, a patient may prefer to gain strength and endurance progressively through the healing process by engaging in a specific form of exercise such as martial arts or boxing. If a patient is returning to work and performs physical work as a part of his or her employment, the exercise physiologists will incorporate the patient’s work activities into his or her rehabilitation process. This therapy program has demonstrated that when patients follow the individualized treatment plan, patients often return to work earlier than if not participating in cardiac rehabilitation. And, for most patients, there is a return to a more active lifestyle with the assistance of cardiac rehabilitation.
