CMS Five-Star Quality Rating – Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital once again received a 5-Star rating in the most recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website listing. Five stars is the highest attainable rating in the report. CMS created the 5-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing healthcare organizations more easily and to help identify areas where patients and families might wish to ask questions. Only 293 hospitals out of 3,700 total received 5-Stars. U.S. News & World Report – High Performing Hospital – In its 2019-2020 “America’s Best Hospitals” list, U.S. News & World Report recognized Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital - Dallas by rating it High Performing in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. For cardiovascular services, Baylor University Medical Center was rated High Performing in Aortic Valve Surgery, Heart Bypass Surgery and Congestive Heart Failure. AWARDS AND ACCOLADES 11 “A” for Patient Safety from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Rating – Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety and transparency in the US healthcare system, assigned a “A” rating to Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas for its commitment to reducing errors, infections and accidents that can harm patients. This is the eighth consecutive “A” grade for the hospital. According to the Leapfrog Group’s information, “Hospitals that earn top marks nationally in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade have achieved the highest safety standards in the country.” Mission: Lifeline ® /Get With The Guidelines Silver-Plus and Silver – The hospital received Silver-Plus recognition as a STEMI Receiving Center and Silver for N-STEMI care as outlined by the American Heart Association’s quality indicators for patients who have had a severe heart attack. The hospital met specific criteria and standards of performance for quick and appropriate treatment of patients by providing emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries when needed. Highest star rating from the 2019 Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) Participation Awards – Announced in March 2019, through the participation of the Vascular Quality Initiative ® Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas received the 2018 VQI Participation Award with a 3-Star rating, the highest “star rating” from the VQI. This is the third consecutive year the hospital has received 3-Star recognition. Women’s Choice Award – Heart Hospital – Earned in 2019 once again as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care. The award signifies that the hospital is in the top 9% of 4,789 US hospitals offering heart care services and is an evidence-based designation identifying hospitals based on robust criteria and what women say they want from a hospital. Society of Thoracic Surgeons 3-Star Rating – Cardiac surgery performed at Baylor University Medical Center received three stars—the highest rating given—for isolated coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedures. The program is ranked in the top 10% in the nation by the STS for FY19.
