Craig Delaughter , MD , PhD , FACC , FHRS , electrophysiology medical director and an interventional cardiologist on the medical staff of Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Fort Worth , was the principal investigator for a heart failure device study conducted at the hospital in fiscal year 2018 . The AMPLATZER™ Amulet LAA Occluder Trial ( Amulet IDE ) compared this new device to the WATCHMAN device in a randomized 1:1 ratio study . Dr . Delaughter reports that the hospital ’ s goal is to participate in all meaningful IDE studies in the left atrial appendage area , in order for patients to have the widest range of options and so that the electrophysiologists on the medical staff become expert in all versions of these devices .
The number of studies available on the Fort Worth campus will continue to grow with unique clinical trials as well as with collaborative research efforts as part of the Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Institute .
