Shared Governance
The Shared Governance model empowers employees to have a voice and become engaged in decision-making opportunities at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital . Supported by a framework of partnership , equity , accountability and ownership , Shared Governance creates an environment conducive for patient-centered care . Shared Governance fosters safe-timely-effective-equitable-efficient care and has been proved to improve patient safety , using evidence-based clinical practice . Shared Governance provides the structure and process to promote autonomy of professional practice within the scope of the Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital employee ’ s discipline . It promotes participatory management and shared decisionmaking between front-line staff members and leadership with a formalized voice and process that impacts both practice and work environment . The philosophy in action supports collaborative , interdisciplinary practice in which there is great teamwork and a reduction of duplicative work .

CARING HEARTS ® : VOLUNTEERS AND PATIENT SUPPORT
Emotional support and timely communication from those who have experienced heart issues are valuable to those who may be experiencing heart events for the first time . As a result , Caring Hearts volunteers , a special group of cardiovascular patients or family members of patients , serve as the hospital ’ s communication connection in the waiting rooms of Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital - Dallas . These volunteers provide family members with updates during their loved one ’ s procedure and recovery . Additionally , Caring Hearts volunteers often visit patients and their family members pre-procedure to answer questions and help reduce anxiety .

James “ Rick ” Green , BSN , RN-BC is a long-time member of the nursing team at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth and Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Fort Worth . Co-workers say he is a champion of change , quietly leading his fellow team members into adopting new ideas and new practices . He is also frequently nominated for quarterly service excellence awards .
Says Henry Viejo , MSN , NEA-BC , RN-BC , Director of Nursing for Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Fort Worth , “ Rick is never ruffled nor defeated . He elevates those around him to stay positive and engaged . He helps others ask , ‘ How can we make this better ?’”
Green was chosen to represent Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Fort Worth at the Magnet National Conference in 2016 and 2017 . He is co-chair of the hospital ’ s Clinical Practice / Professional Development Council and he is a member of the Professional Development Council . He was part of the Cath Lab and TAVR program launch in Fort Worth and he was a main staff representative for the design and build-out of the new heart and vascular unit on the fifth floor of the hospital . His work experience has spanned the CVICU and perioperative care .
Outside of work , Green is a true Texas cowboy and a devoted family man , living in the country with land and horses . In many ways , Rick Green is the heart and soul of Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital - Fort Worth .
