C TRANSCATHETER VALVE TYPES AVAILABLE Several research/investigational trials are underway throughout the country, and Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital continues to be a global site featuring innovative technology on valve disorders. Candidates for valve replacement or repair are carefully selected, and the appropriate valve is chosen based on the individual patient’s situation. “Surgeons and cardiologists simultaneously evaluating the patients eliminates fragmented visits for the patients and allows for open discussion to adjudicate the best option for each patient. This is especially important as new technology evolves,” says Robert F. Hebeler, Jr., MD, Co-Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery. With FDA approval expanding the use of transcatheter heart valves to patients at intermediate risk (Sapien and CoreValve®), the Center for Valve Disorders offers these valve types: Aortic: Medtronic • CoreValve® Evolut™ R (Commercial and Research) – 23, 26, 29 and 34 mm 44 SAPIEN 3 image courtesy of Edwards Other therapies as a part of the Center for Valve Disorders include: • Minimally invasive mitral and tricuspid valve repair; aortic, mitral, and tricuspid replacement and MAZE • Transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation for failed bioprosthetic valves in the aortic, mitral, tricuspid, or pulmonic position • Transcatheter valve-in-ring for prior mitral or tricuspid annuloplasty • MitraClip® and Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR) for high surgical risk patients with severe mitral regurgitation • CoreValve® Evolut™ PRO (Commercial and Research) – 23, 26, 29 mm • Balloon mitral valvuloplasty for mitral stenosis Edwards • Sapien XT (Commercial) • Percutaneous Atrial Septal Defect Closure • Sapien S3 (Commercial) – Early TAVR asymptomatic aortic stenosis – Intermediate Risk • Sizes for both: 20, 23, 26 and 29 mm TMVR and Mitral Clip Valve Types: Abbott • MitraClip® (Research and Commercial) • Tendyne (Research) – EF > 30% Medtronic • Intrepid 12 Study (Research) – EF around 20% • Percutaneous Patent Foramen Ovale Closure • Alcohol Septal Ablation for H
