In Memoriam JOHANNES J. KUIPER, MD April 18, 1966 – April 25, 2016 Medical Staff Member: 1998 – 2016 Medical Director, Outreach Center for Heart Disease and Transplant – Baylor University Medical Center The teams at Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas mourn the loss of Dr. Kuiper in 2016. A much-loved medical staff member since 1998, Dr. Kuiper was instrumental in developing the advanced heart failure program. During his distinguished career at Baylor University Medical Center, Dr. Kuiper touched the hearts and lives of many patients, families and staff. He was known for the compassionate care he provided his patients and for his fun-loving spirit. Dr. Kuiper’s passions included nature and international travel. He is deeply missed by his Baylor Dallas family. “It was an incredible experience working with Dr. Kuiper, my partner, throughout nearly eighteen years at Baylor University Medical Center. He demonstrated wonderful compassion and dedication for his patients and always looking around the rules that got in the way of finding a unique solution to a particular patient issue. I recall he would visit patients in their homes from time to time, chat with staff, and beat to his own drum. In fact, one of my dearest remembrances was a story where he went to the home of a patient who passed away and cooked dinner for the mourning widow. He was passionate about our advanced heart failure program and so excited to be part of our expansion. He was an incredible clinician with a caring soul and I will miss him.” –Shelley Hall, MD, FACC, FHFSA Chief of Transplant Cardiology, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Heart Failure Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas
