Service to Community
SUPPORT PROGRAMS
Preventive health education groups are one of the best
resources for people who have experienced heart
and vascular disease. Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton
Heart and Vascular Hospital’s team of medical and
clinical staff work together to provide ongoing support
for patients and family members dealing with heart
and vascular health concerns. In addition, the hospital
emphasizes community outreach by sponsoring ongoing
classes focused on preventive health education.
Leap For Life®
Participants take the first leap toward a healthier
lifestyle with Leap (Lifestyle Education
Awareness Program) for Life®. Designed to
meet the needs of patients and their families with heart
disease, Leap for Life teaches what you can do now to manage
your disease and possibly improve your health. It’s a wellness
and disease prevention program available to heart patients,
their family members and the community that empowers
individuals with physical, dietary and stress education to
achieve better health.
Wired For Life
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular
Hospital has teamed up with past
implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) recipients to
provide future or past ICD recipients with support, comfort
and answers to their questions. Volunteers meet with the
future recipients and their families before and after the ICD
procedure. Classes are scheduled four to six times per year.
“Living with…” Series
In fiscal year 2016, several Living with Heart Failure and
Living with Atrial Fibrillation evening community events were
held. These evening sessions provided the community and
patients seeking additional information about heart failure or
heart arrhythmias with an opportunity to learn more about
their condition and ask questions of experts in these areas.

Caring Hearts®: Volunteer Group and Support
Emotional support and timely communication from those who
have experienced heart issues is valuable to those who may be
experiencing heart events for the first time. As a result Caring
Hearts volunteers, as well as volunteers who have experience as
a family member or patient themselves, serve as the hospital’s
communication connection in our family waiting areas to
ensure the patient’s family members receive timely updates
during their loved one’s procedure and recovery. Additionally,
Caring Hearts volunteers often visit patients and their family
members pre-procedure to answer questions and help reduce
anxiety that is often present.
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is committed to
our mission and giving back to the community by providing
biometric health screenings. In fiscal year 2016, hospital
staff conducted more than ten community health screenings,
providing blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and glucose
readings for more than 2,000 community members.
Increasingly popular in fiscal year 2016 were calls to assist
in hands-only CPR training. Several classes were provided
for Southern Methodist University students, area high
school students and private college-prep schools. Helping the
community understand the basics of hands-only CPR and the
training provided will help save lives.
