Many in attendance wore masks to hide their identities, and there were threats of being shot in the streets. & Neighbors, Inc. Your Family, Friends, & Neighbors are just that- average citizens dedicated to promoting human rights for gay and lesbian people, and developing recognition of the diveristy that is inherent in our community. Founded in Boise, Idaho, as a reaction to the wave of antigay hatred and violence that is sweeping through our countzy, YF'fN wiD wo.IK to promote respect, understanding, and tolemnce for lesbian and gay people, to provide a voice for gay and lesbian human rights iss es, and to expose and reduce anti­ u gay bigotzy. By 1991, the celebration grew even further, moving from their original location at the bandshell at Julia Davis Park, down to the Grove, which became the prime location for Pride for many years, before eventually relocating to Ann Morrison Park. What does belonging to Your Family, Friends, & Neighbors mean? Membership shows an understanding of the daily struggle that gay men and lesbians must endure to live a life that most non-gay people can take for granted.
